KARACHI: Minister for Information & Technology Anusha Rehman and Chairman PTA Dr. Ismail Shah have announced that Norwegian telecom company Telenore Group (one of the world’s largest mobile operators) has successfully won the license for 10MHz block in 850MHz for a base price of US$395m.
Earlier it was said that since Telenore was the only bidder PTA might opt to withhold the auction and postpone it for a later time to attract more bidders. But PTA has finally decided to go ahead with the auction and award the spectrum to Telenore at the base price.
Telenore that has now become the third 4G operator in Pakistan has already conducted its 4G tests and is all set to commence the services in major cities within few months. Spectrum to be allotted within thirty days of payment to Telenore include UL: 824 – 834 MHz, DL: 869 – 879 MHz
