RUSSIA: Sergei Melikov, Governor of Russian southern republic of Degestan has informed that more than fifteen cops, an Orthodox priest and several civilians had been gunned down on Sunday (23rd June, 2024) by militants who attacked two churches, a synagogue and a Police post in the predominantly Muslim region with a history of terrorism.
According to authorities militants simultaneously attacked Derbent’s synagogue and church and a church and a traffic police Post in Dagestan. So far five to six militants have been neutralized in the counter-terrorism operation.
Tass cited sources saying that sons of a Dagestan officer could be involved in the insurgency and he had been taken into custody for investigation. Though no terrorists outfit has claimed the responsibility, Russia sees that the attack was planed abroad i.e.: in Ukraine.
