The Guardian not to post content on X

LONDON: Left-leaning British newspaper The Guardian (that happens to have 10.8 million followers on X) has stated on its website Wednesday (13th November, 2024) that it would not post articles on X as the toxic media platform often harbours disturbing content.

The Guardian said its resources could be better used promoting its journalism elsewhere as the benefits of being on X were now outweighed by the negatives.

“This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism…

“The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.”

The Guardian, while redirecting 10.8 million visitors to its website by means of @guardian, told them that the X account had been archived.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently a Pakistani posted fake content on X saying that a Muslim migrant had killed three young girls in Southport (England). That resulted into anti-Muslim riots carried out by the far right fanatics.
