Think twice before following online exercise suggestions

MEHWISH

LONDON:  Eating disorder specialists have warned that food blogs and online exercise administrations are stimulating anorexia and eating disorders in youth.

Specialists assert that unscientific and possibly lethal diet plans and exercises, marketed by unqualified people are being promoted by social media sites like facebook and Instagram.

“They are often not experienced or registered health care professionals, and yet their influence on vulnerable young girls is enormous. There’s an awful lot of bad science out there” said Alexia Dempey, an eating disorder specialist at the Priory’s Roehampton Hospital. As the hospital witnessed a significant increase in number of admissions by 2014.

She also affirmed that suggestions, if not scientifically accurate or based on vigorous evidence, may cause perilous effects on health as Anorexia may result in brittle bones and infertility in sufferers.
