Tik Tok goes dark in US on 19th Jan

WASHINGTON: Tik Tok says it has been forced to go dark in the US on Sunday (19th Jan 2025) as Department of Justice had failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining it’s availability.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court of USA in its 9-0 ruling upheld a law banning TikTok. President-Elect Donald Trump had asked the Supreme Court to stay the ban till his inauguration…

“,…so that his IInd administration could figure out a modus operandi to sell it to US buyers”. 170 million users in USA are expecting that Donald Trump would rescue Tik Tok after returning to power on Monday (20th Jan, 2025).

Tik Tok was banned over concerns apropos its links to the Govt of China. It was given until 19 January to be sold to an approved US buyer to avert the ban. This is the first time US has banned a major Social Media platform.
