ISLAMABAD: The second open trade conference is scheduled to be held here Wednesday, April 17, with an aim to encourage self-introspection of country’s policies and discuss the best way forward to modernize them.
The conference titled, “Achieving prosperity through Open Trade Policies” is being organized by an Islamabad-based economic think tank, Policy Research Institute of Market Economy (PRIME).
Senior policy makers, legislators, business people, economic journalists and other stakeholders would be sharing their perspectives on identifying the problems and suggesting the way forward. PRIME sources said.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood would be keynote speaker on the occasion while among others Ex-Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastagir Khan, Director, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Dr. Ghulam Samad, , President Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry, South, Ms. Shaiyanne Malik, , CEO, Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs, Malaysia, Ali Salman are also scheduled to speak on the occasion.
The conference would help in increasing awareness of international trade and help promote Pakistan’s share in global trade, PRIME sources said.
They said, that developing countries had been expanding their share of global trade and now make up almost 40 percent of world trade.
Many of them are now belong to major regional trading blocs, however, unlike the successful developing countries, Pakistan had been consistently losing its global trade share, they added.
