ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesman Dr. Muhammad Faisal while talking to journalists here during a formal weekly briefing told that the postponed visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would soon be rescheduled.

He maintained that Pakistan and Turkey had profound brotherly ties and maintain regular contacts at the leadership level.

Muhammad Faisal noted that Turkey had remained a victim of terrorism for a long time and one  needed to recognize its legitimate security concerns in the region. FO Spokesman informed that Prime Minister Imran Khan had called the Turkish President and reiterated Pakistan’s support and solidarity with Turkey.

FO Spokesman further stated that Pakistan continued to support the territorial integrity of Syria and hoped a political solution to the Syrian conflict would be reached at the earliest.

Pakistan supports Turkey’s Syria offensive

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has offered rare backing to Turkey in its offensive against Kurdish forces in Syria, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expected to visit Islamabad later this month.

Prime Minister Imran Khan called Erdogan to “convey Pakistan’s support and solidarity,” said the PM Office.

“The prime minister told him [Erdogan] that Pakistan fully understands Turkey’s concerns relating to terrorism,” it said, adding “Pakistan is fully cognizant of the threats and challenges being faced by Turkey having lost 40,000 of its people to terrorism”.

Khan told Erdogan that “Pakistan stands in full support and solidarity with Turkey,” it said.

“We pray that Turkey’s efforts for enhanced security, regional stability and peaceful resolution of the Syrian situation are fully successful,” Khan was quoted as saying.

Erdogan reluctant to stop Syria assault despite US warning of fresh sanctions

Earlier today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara won’t stop assault against Kurdish forces in Syria despite any threat by any country.

Erdogan also dismissed threats from the US of fresh sanctions.

The President of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump had yesterday warned Turkey to immediately stop attacks on Kurdish forces in Syria. Trump had warned that Washington will impose sanctions on Ankara if the attacks won’t stop.

US Defence Secretary Mark Esper “strongly encouraged” Turkey to halt its offensive as a prelude to such negotiations, warning otherwise of “serious consequences”.

However, Erdogan seemed reluctant to obey the US orders and vowed that the assault “will not stop” at any cost.

“Now there are threats coming from left and right, telling us to stop this,” he said. “We will not step back.”
