Two dead, 17 missing after boats collide in East China Sea




BEIJING: At least two persons were dead and more than 17 went missing when a fishing boat collided with a cargo ship in the East China Sea, according to local media.

Initial reports confirmed that the Chinese fishing boat named ‘Lu Rong Yu’ collided with a Maltese freighter at 3:40, injuring two fishermen. Several others are still missing.

The injured were rescued by the passing ships but died later while onboard. The search and rescue operations to find the missing persons are underway.

A Chinese Navy official claimed that the Maltese flag career cargo ship left the scene quick after the incident.
