IS claims responsibility of three explosions that killed 34 at EU Quarter Metro and the departure lounge of Brussels’ Zaventem airport

BRUSSELS:   IS has claimed responsibility of three explosions that rocked the city early Tuesday.

Four days after the Paris-carnage suspect Salah Abdul Salam was shot and arrested from Molenbeek, two explosions (first due to a device placed in a suitcase  and second  by a suicide bomber) rocked the Zaventem airport.

The blasts were followed by  gun shots  and shouting in Arabic. One blast took place at American Airlines check-in desk here.

Metro service  were closed after an explosion rocked a station near EU Quarter at 9.38 AM.

At least 34 people lost their lives and some 175 were injured in the triple blasts.

According to details  passengers were seen running out of the airport’s departure lounge. As black smoke continuously gushed out, those wounded were  taken to ambulances on luggage.

Airport had been evacuated and all flights cancelled. Three suicide jackets and an assault rifle were found from the airport during search operation.

Train service from other cities to Brussels have also been cancelled. Eurostar trains coming to Brussels from London too stopped operations.

Meanwhile, David Cameron assured Belgium of all possible support. France has deployed extra 1600 security personnel to guard the borders.
