‘Udta Punjab’ makes Rs.10.05 Crore on opening day




MUMBAI: The most controversial and debated film of the year Udta Punjab has hit the box office on June 17 with an earning of Rs. 10.05 Crore on its first day.

According to film pundits, the newly released movie has managed to establish an emotional connect with the audiences on Day One and it looks set to fly high in the days to come.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

The movie secured the fifth position in the top hit new releases. The first position remained on Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ side. Housefull 3 remained at 2, Airlift at 3 and Baaghi remained at 4th position.

The movie remained under controversy before its release as the censor board ordered the director to cut the abusive scenes from the film. On the other side, the film was leaked online before its official release and was easily available to the audience on entertainment sites.

According to the distributors, the response to Udta Punjab has been excellent on day 1 and there have been 40-50% advance bookings for Saturday and Sunday.
