KARACHI: United Kingdom Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer during a visit to Pakistan has announced that UK will provide funding worth UK to fund £108m enabling Pak businesses combat climate change.
Local Pakistani businesses will benefit from this funding to support the development of climate technologies and expertise to tackle climate change. This first-of-its-kind programme will be delivered in partnership with the International Finance Corporation. The programme will help create over 100,000 Pakistani jobs. Speaking on the occasion Hamish Falconer said: “The UK and Pakistan have a long history of working together to tackle tomorrow’s threats today.
“That’s why we’re investing in the expertise needed and supporting local businesses, alongside the Government of Pakistan, to get ahead of the challenges that climate change poses to the Pakistani people and the world. From my own time working as a diplomat in Pakistan to now returning as a Minister, it’s clear that the UK and Pakistan’s partnership continues to go from strength to strength and is essential in tackling shared global challenges.”
