Ukraine fires Britain-made cruise missiles into Russia

MOSCOW: A day after Putin proclaimed the new nuclear doctrine following Ukraine’s launching of US-made Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), Kjiv fired 12 British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles into the Kursk region on Wednesday (20th Nov, 2024).

After Biden Administration allowed Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia using US-provided long-range missiles, Putin here on Tuesday (19th Nov, 2024) formally signed new nuclear doctrine The basics of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.

The new doctrine, that is a warning to the United States, means that Russia will use nuclear weapons if any country (backed by a nuclear power) attacks it even if utilising conventional weapons.

It is pertinent to mention here that on the 1000th day of war Russia shot down those 6 US-supplied ATACMS missiles that were fired by Ukraine on 19th Nov morning at a military facility.

It may be recalled that the 2020 doctrine stated that Russia might use nuclear weapons in case of a nuclear attack by an enemy or a conventional attack that threatened the existence of the state.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, while talking about the 996th day of war said (by means of Telegram), that Russia had killed ten of innocent citizens by launching 120 missiles and 90 drones on sleeping cities to destroy the power infrastructure in Donetsk, Lviv, Odesa and other regions.

Zelensky messaged on Telegram: “The enemy’s target was our energy infrastructure throughout Ukraine. Unfortunately, there is damage to objects from hits and falling debris.” Savants at the helm of affairs held that was the largest coordinated assault since the 1st half of September. It seems Russia will continue targeting the Ukrainian power generating facilities making Ukraine during cold winter.

It may be recalled that on 14th Nov President-elect Donald Trump has reiterated that his administration would work hard to end the Russia-Ukraine war. He was speaking to the ladies and gentlemen at a gala for the America First Policy Institute at the Mar-a-Lago Club here.

“We’re going to work on the Middle East, and we’re going to work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. It’s gotta stop. Russia and Ukraine’s gotta stop…I saw a report today. Thousands of people over the last three days were killed. Thousands and thousands were killed. They happened to be soldiers, but whether they’re soldiers or they’re people sitting in towns, we’re going to work it.”

Taking to the X (Twitter) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated: “I am grateful to the United States House of Representatives, both parties, and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track.”

North Korean Connection: Following a summit held on 19th June, 2024 in Pyongyang Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un have signed a historic comprehensive strategic partnership pact, that provides among other things, for mutual assistance in the event of aggression against one of the parties to this deal.

Kim has pledged full support for the Ukraine War of Putin who is visiting Pyongyang for the first time in 24 years. According to Kim the mutual defense pledge, one of Russia’s most significant moves in Asia for years, amounted to an alliance. It is pertinent to mention here that US State Department has been accusing North Korea for supplying ballistic missiles etc to Russia to be used in Ukraine War. Whereas, the West is fully supporting Ukraine in its War against Russia with billions of dollars worth of weapons.

Before the meeting, by means of a correspondence (run by Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s ruling party mouthpiece), Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to build trade and security systems with DPRK that ‘are not controlled by the West’. Russian leader maintained in the letter that, despite the US pressure, blackmail and military threats, his country would continue to support North Korea. Putin further held in his correspondence that Russia and North Korea would resolutely oppose the Western ambition to hinder the establishment of a multipolarised world order based on mutual respect for justice. Focusing on the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin praised North Korea for firmly supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
