US denies reports of ‘no visa policy for Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD: The US Embassy Islamabad and the US Consulate General in Karachi on Monday have refuted the claim that Pakistan has been added to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

According to details, some news websites, and Pakistani news agencies picked up the story which claimed that Pakistan has become a part of VWP.

US Embassy, however, denied such reports after the news went viral on the internet.

Some of the Urdu dailies also carried quotes of top US official in their reports.  A foreign website had published a satirical piece that some local dailies re-produced it as a news report.

“The 39th country to have enjoyed the privilege is Pakistan,” the story said, adding that Pakistani passport holders no longer required visas to travel to the United States.

The story even carried a false quote from US Secretary of State John Kerry saying the State Department arrived at the decision as a “way to reward Pakistan in helping to fight terrorism.”
