US S/R Dilawar Syed visits Karachi

KARACHI: As part of his July 6-9 trip to the Port City, US Department of State Special Representative (S/R) for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed visited the National Incubation Center Kr (NICK), on 7th day of July for a range of engagements with Pakistani officials, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

S/R Syed met the Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin-ul-Haque to discuss how the United States and Pakistan can cooperate to strengthen Pakistan’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Following the meeting, S/R Syed toured the center with NICK officials and met Pakistani entrepreneurs.

USA 1While at NICK, S/R Syed also spoke at a panel on “Promoting U.S.-Pakistan Innovation and Investment.” Also participating were Atif Rais Khan, Founder and CEO of technology company LMKT, and Dr. Syed Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director of the Institute of Business Administration. Moderated by journalist Ariba Shahid, the event highlighted Pakistan’s entrepreneurial potential and how to expand it.

“The United States will keep working to expand our bilateral trade, boost investment, and expand entrepreneurial and educational opportunities for all as part of our effort to build on 75 years of U.S.-Pakistan economic cooperation,” S/R Syed said.

Following the panel, S/R Syed participated in a round-table with Pakistani women entrepreneurs who have successfully established their own businesses. Highlighting US support for empowering Pakistani women and girls, S/R Syed stressed the importance of nurturing sustainable and inclusive economic growth for Pakistan’s long-term prosperity.

“Boosting digital and financial literacy for women and marginalized groups, for example, will help ensure Pakistan can realize its entrepreneurial potential,” he said.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took to the Twitter to state: “Welcome US Special Rep Commercial & Business Affairs Dilawar Syed to Pakistan. S/R for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed visited the National Incubation Center at LUMS … to meet with entrepreneurs and learn about the growing Pakistani startup ecosystem.

“On his tour of the Hilbro International Factory, S/R for Commercial and Business Affairs met with the CEO of Hilbro, Muhammad Shakir Iqbal. Hilbro is the largest manufacturer and exporter of precision instruments in Pakistan, with sales in almost every country worldwide.”

Following his meeting with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail S/R Dilawar Syed Tweeted: “Thank you Miftah Ismail for an energetic dialogue on US-Pakistan economic relationship. We’re looking forward to building on our commercial ties— from renewable energy to technology and digital health.”

US Consulate General in Lahore stated: “Over the course of his visit to Lahore, S/R for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed visited Lahore Chamber and Lahore’s Women Chamber of Commerce to discuss trade opportunities between US- Pak and the importance of the inclusion of women in trade.”

US Consulate general Lahore Tweeted: “Over the course of his visit to Lahore, S/R for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed met Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to learn about Punjab-specific trade opportunities and discuss the growing economic ties between US and Pakistan.”
