TEHRAN: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that negotiations with the United States would be meaningless as long as sanctions would be in place.
“As Iran’s government, parliament and people see it, negotiating with the United States is meaningless as long as sanctions are in place,” Rouhani told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during a phone call.
According to the government’s website, the Iranian president said that if the USA was wanting to hold talks with the Islamic Republic, it should review the sanctions first.
The White House on Tuesday said US President Donald Trump was willing to meet Rouhani without preconditions while maintaining its campaign of “maximum pressure” on Iran.
