Voting for CM Punjab Election

LAHORE: Lawmakers are all set to vote for CM Punjab election in an Assembly that harbors 177 MPAs belonging to PTI, 167 PML-N, 10 PML-Q, 7 PPP-P, 6 Independents, 1 Pakistan Rah-e-Haq, 3 seats are vacant due to resignation. 

The session that was supposed to commence at 4PM started at about 7PM. Since Speaker Pervez Elahi himself is a candidate for the slot of CM Punjab, Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari, presided over the session.

Deputy Speaker PA MazariAccording to sources PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had directed his party’s MPAs not to vote anybody. He said he would not support Imran Khan’s candidate but in case Pervez Elahi stands as joint candidate of PML-N and PPP-P he would support him. Nevertheless, all PML-Q MPAs (including Ch. Pervez Elahi) opted to cast their votes despite the directions of the party supremo.

Newly elected independent Member of Punjab Assembly Pir Rafiuddin Bukhari said he would vote for Hamza Shahbaz Sharif:

Nevertheless, the voting started without Pervez Elahi’s announcing his will to contest as a joint candidate of PML-N and PPP-P.

Till 8.15PM the PML-Q MPAs remained seated and did not cast their vote.

Moonis Elahi took to the Twitter to state: “Yesterday PML parliamentary party chaired by parliamentary party leader Sajid Bhatti PP 67 in Punjab Assembly held its meeting and it was decided unanimously that @chparvezelahi is cm candidate.”

Covid 19 MPAsLAHORE: MPA Uzmi Zaeem Qadri, who is suffering from Covid-19, arrived to vote at the Provincial Assembly here on 22nd July, duly arrived in protective gear.
