‘Want to win a Test match for Pakistan,’ says Yasir Shah on achieving 100-wicket milestone

DUBAI: Pakistan’s leg-spinner Yasir Shah said on Sunday that his focus is on winning a Test for Pakistan.

Shah, who took 5 wickets for 121 runs against West Indies and became the second joint-fastest bowler to complete 100 wickets in all Test cricket on Sunday as Pakistan dismissed Windies for 357 after setting a target of 537 for the side to chase, said in an interview that he was extremely happy at becoming the first Asian and second all-time fastest bowler to take 100 Test wickets at the close of the fourth day of the first day-night Test between Pakistan and West Indies in Dubai.

“The 100-wicket milestone is a proud moment for me,” he said, adding that he will continue trying to form the new records.

The leg-spinner also thanked Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for wishing him well on Twitter before the start of first Test, when he needed just 5 wickets to break Ashwin’s record to become the fastest to take 100 Test wickets.

“It is always encouraging when someone praises you,” Shah said, adding that he was happy to see Ashwin’s tweets

Commenting on Pakistan’s clash with arch-rival India, he said: “India-Pakistan matches are always important for both team’s players and when the opportunity arrives, I will try to perform well.”
