WASHINGTON: Acting MD of IMF David Lipton called on PM Imran Khan here at the Embassy of Pakistan.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Advisor on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Advisor on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood were also present on the occasion.
Lipton later stated that PM Imran’s government faced mounting pressure as rising prices and tough austerity policies under Pakistan’s latest bailout from the IMF were squeezing the middle class that helped carry it to power: “Pakistan needs to mobilize domestic tax revenue now and on into the future to provide reliably for needed social and development spending, while placing debt on a firm downward trend.”
The talks were focused on recent economic developments and implementation of Pakistan’s IMF-supported economic reforms.
