International Women’s Day will be observed across the world including Pakistan on 8th of March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
In this regard, the social welfare department would organize a function at “Sanat Zar” while another program would be held at the Women Development Center on 9th March.
Divisional Director, Social Welfare Nabeela Shahid said that the motive behind observing this day was to provide information to the people about women’s rights and highlight their importance in society.
She said that the government departments were working for the protection of women’s rights and legislation to provide women with a more secure working environment in the country.
The first International Women’s Day was observed on February 28, 1909, in the United States, following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The day was also commemorated at the United Nations level and is designated in many countries as a national holiday.
The Women Development department (WDD) will also observe International Women’s Day in a befitting manner to highlight the important role played by womenfolk in the overall development and progress of the society.
Punjab Minister for Women Devt Ashifa Riaz stated this while presiding over a meeting at the Women Devt. Secretariat, on Wednesday. Secretary Women Devt Umbreen Raza, Additional Secretary Asifur Rehman and others attended the meeting.
The minister maintained that the day will be celebrated in austere manner to spend more and more funds on the welfare of the women. “This day is an important occasion to sensitize the society about the beneficial role and rights of the women because no society could progress without vibrant contribution of its womenfolk”, concluded the minister.
United Nations Maintains: A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
