ISLAMABAD: Since due to stocked imported wheat and bumper crop this season, government was not able to procure all the yield, farmers were facing a debacle because of drastic fall in demand and thus slashed price.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, taking notice of the farmers’ predicament, has augmented the procurement target from 1.4 million metric tons to 1.8 million metric tons, before his departure for Riyadh on Saturday (27th April, 2024).
The premier ordered Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) not only to increase the wheat procurement target but also to make sure that the wheat was immediately purchased from desperate farmers.
