KARACHI: FIR against four ‘robbers’ has been registered at Sir Syed PS for murder of the 20-year-old medical student who was killed in the crossfire here on Friday (22nd Feb).
According to details, the case u/s pertaining to terrorism, murder, attempt to murder & police encounter was filed on the complaint of constable Adnan. While patrolling along with other policemen near Farooq-e-Azam Mosque in ‘K’ Sector of North Nazimabad near Shahrah-e-Noor, he warned the suspects to stop. But the 4 gunmen riding two motorcycles attempted to bolt while retaliating to Police firing.
According to FIR, two bikers dissolved in the heavy traffic near Sakhi Hasan while a hot pursuit continued. As a result of another encounter amongst Police and riders of the second bike near Anda Mor both the suspected robbers, hailing from Rahim Yar Khan, got injured and were nabbed along with two pistols. Later one of the suspects succumbed to his wounds.
In the FIR it is claimed that a girl (Nimra) was fatally injured by the robbers’ shooting during the crossfire. However, the autopsy carried out at JPMC revealed that she was hit by a high-speed velocity weapon (sub-machine gun) in the use of Police.
Sadly the family of the victim learned about the tragedy via TV channels as Police did not inform them. When the family members heard Nimra’s name, they approached the police and hospital administration. They lamented the indifferent attitude of both Police and hospital staff.
Taking notice of the sad incident, city police Chief Dr. Amir Ahmed ordered an inquiry to fix responsibility. It is high time that the ritual of ‘taking notices’ (by President, PM, CM…) after such tragedies ends and only properly trained personnel is allowed to carry weapons.
