While Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will add ten votes to the 12 needed to remove Buzdar, 11th vote will be of MPA from Multan Qasim Abbas and the 11th vote will be Jugnu Mohsin. Presently, the ruling alliance has 195 while the opposition has 173 members.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Dost Muhammad Mazari were elected as Punjab Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively on Thursday.
For Speaker slot, out of total 349 votes cast by the members, Pervaiz Elahi obtained 201 votes, while his rival, PML-N’s nominee Chaudhry Iqbal Gujjar, could get 147 votes. One vote was rejected.
The outgoing speaker, Rana Muhammad Iqbal, administered the oath to the new Speaker and felicitated him on his success.
After getting elected, Pervaiz Elahi expressed his gratitude to the members who voted for him and especially PTI Chairman Imran Khan for his support and vowed to work for the betterment of the province and Pakistan as well.
Meanwhile, PTI nominated Dost Muhammad Mazari was elected as Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. He got 187 votes while PML-N’s candidate Malik Muhammad Waris Kallu got 159 votes.
Amid opposition disarray, Pakistan Peoples Party abstained from the voting process for the post of speaker and deputy speaker.
Prominent political figure Chaudhry Nisar did not cast his vote for both the offices.
According to Secretary Punjab Assembly, the election for the office of chief minister Punjab would be held on August 19 in the assembly chamber.
