Women World Cup: Coach blames captain Sana Mir, senior players for loss

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan women cricket team coach Sabih Azhar has blamed women’s cricket team skipper Sana Mir and senior players for poor performance in the World Cup 2017.

According to a senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, Azhar submitted a written report to the board in which he blamed Sana for adopting the negative approach and of being completely self-obsessed.

He also complained that Ayesha Ashar, the long-time team manager, paid most of her attention to senior players Sana, Javeria Khan and Nain Abidi, and was “cold” towards the younger players.

“My humble view is if the set of these four – three players and manager – continue with the national team, there is absolutely no chance of players’ growth in the team,” Azhar wrote in his report.

“The captain’s negative approach did damage the confidence of our batters and bowlers and they couldn’t play their natural game during matches.”

Pakistan women were unsuccessful in winning any single match in the tournament.
