Women’s bicycle rally cancelled in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A scheduled bicycle rally, in which 35 women and transgenders were supposed to take part here today, has been cancelled due to objection by certain groups.

According to details Zama Jawandoon, an organization working for women’s rights was all set to hold the ‘peace rally’ but the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat-i-Islami, and other religious parties held that would spread obscenity.

Due to the threat of protests by these parties, organizers opted to cancel the rally: “After receiving information about a possible protest against the race, police contacted the organizers and they revealed that the rally had been postponed,” SP Cantt Wasim Riaz confirmed.
