World Philosophy Day observed

KARACHI: World Philosophy Day was institutionalized in 2005 by UNESCO when it announced that it would be celebrated every third Thursday of the month of November.

By means of this Day UNESCO attempts to promote culture of philosophical debate that respects human dignity and diversity.

Academic exchange is encouraged on the World Philosophy Day.

On the very jour the contribution of philosophical knowledge towards handling world issues is highlighted and the national, sub-regional, regional and international commitment to philosophy is renewed.

The day provides an opportunity to foster philosophical analysis, research and studies on major contemporary issues in order to effectively handle challenges that are confronting humanity.

Different interactions of human beings in their social, cultural, geographical and political environment, is the theme this year when the specter of COVID-19 is hovering all over the world threatening the humanity itself.

According to UNESCO it leads World Philosophy Day – but does not own it: “It belongs to everyone, everywhere, who cares about philosophy…

“World Philosophy Day 2021 wishes to open the discussion on the different interactions of human beings with their social, cultural, geographical and political environment,…

“with the underlying objective of better understanding the contribution of philosophy in our contemporary societies and the challenges they face, the pandemic in particular.

“Philosophy, and even more so intercultural philosophy, is concerned with context and is therefore, in its very essence, concerned with the transformation of society.”

Grasping at the opportunity concerned organisations organise events to raise public awareness apropos utilization of philosophy in the choices arising for many societies from the effects of globalization or entry into modernity.

Not only unequal access and the state of its edification all over the world is pondered over, the Day is also used to highlight the importance of the universalization of philosophy teaching for future generations.
