9 May Riots: 51 incarcerated for five years

GUJRANWALA: An ATC Judge Natasha Naseem Sipra on Saturday (30th of March, 2024) has incarcerated 51 rioters for five years in a case apropos storming the cantonment here on 9th May, 2023 following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Since 18 (including SSP Usman Tariq Butt) got injured and a volunteer cop got killed in the incident the Tahwali Cantt Police had registered the FIR under the anti-terrorism law and inserted the PPC’s section 307 (attempted murder).

The following sentences would run concurrently minus the period of detention.

1) Rigorous imprisonment for five years and a Rs10,000 fine, with simple imprisonment of a further 10 days in case of default under Section 6(2i) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

2) Rigorous imprisonment for five years and a Rs10,000 fine, with simple imprisonment of a further 10 days in case of default under Section 6(2m) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

3) Rigorous imprisonment for five years and a Rs10,000 fine, with simple imprisonment of a further 10 days in case of default under Section 6(2n) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997:

3) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) Section 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon).

4) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under PPC Section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions).

5) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under PPC Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

6) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under PPC Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

7) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under PPC Section 427 (mischief causing damage amounting to Rs50).

8) Rigorous imprisonment for one year under PPC Section 431 (mischief by injury to public road, bridge, river or channel).
