KARACHI: Writers, academics, poets, and artists converged at Liaquat Memorial Library here on Saturday (14th Dec, 2024) to attend the 7th edition of two-day Sindh Literature Festival
The theme this year is ‘Save Indus, Save Life’ which focuses on the ecological and civilizational significance of the Sindhu Darya.
After inaugurating the event, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that the Federal Government must make sure that the Indus water was provided to the lower riparian according to the agreement.
Pointing towards invasion of sea, inundating lands in Badin, Sujawal and Thatta, the Minister warned that if govt failed to act upon the advice of experts who assert that one million cusecs of water must be released per annum into the sea, by 2060 Karachi will also be invaded by the ocean.
He emphasised that the Indus River faced major challenges due to the practice of constructing barrages and dams for decades.
Literature aficionados are satiating their thirst for poetry and prose by participating in Panel Discussions, Book Launching Ceremonies, Poetry Sessions and Cultural Performances.
