D-Chowk Protest: ATC Clears 78 Suspects

ISLAMABAD: ATC Judge Tahir Sipra discharged 78 suspects who were brought to his court by Police after physical remand with strict instructions not to rearrest them.

It may be recalled that last Saturday (14th Dec, 2024) ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain here had discharged 40 suspects who were nabbed during the PTI’s manifestation on 26th November at D-Chowk.

While IO requested a 30-day remand of the accused, defence attorney Ansar Kiyani maintained that Police had nabbed innocent workers of PTI and even labourers from their residences following orders from higher-ups to arrest a certain number of people.

Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, who was irked as Police had brought the suspects late night, ordered removal of their handcuffs and discharged them from the cases.

ATC Judge, refusing Police request for a month-long remand, sent other 50 accused to jail. But, despite the judge’s orders not to re-arrest those individuals, LEA nabbed them again.

Reacting to the development, the attorney of the people involved said he would challenge the Police action in the High Court.
