RAWALPINDI: Following the Trump-brokered truce, the Indo-Pak Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) held the first round of talks by means of hotline Monday (12th May, 2025).
According to Indian Army, Lt. Gen Rajiv Ghai, Indian Director General Military Operations (DGMO) and his Pakistani counterpart Major General Kashif Abdullah discussed: “Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other…
“It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas.” The duo will talk again within 48 hours. During that rendezvous the two sides are expected to discuss the Kashmir issue, the water issue and the issue of cross border terrorism.
Offering to assist solving the Kashmir dispute, Trump stated on 11th May: “I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have lead to to the death and destruction of so many, and so much.
“Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision. While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations.
“Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a “thousand years,” a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!”
While India rejected any third-party support, FO of Pakistan welcomed the offer and reaffirmed that “any just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and must ensure the realization of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including their inalienable right to self-determination.”

Secretary Marco Rubio by means of X stated: “Over the past 48 hours, Vice President Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik. I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
