MANHATTAN: Following comments by Donald Trump about him, Mayor London Sir Sadiq Khan said the US president has shown he is a racist, sexist, misogynistic and Islamophobic.
“People are wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multi-cultural, progressive and successful city, that means I appear to be living rent-free inside Donald Trump’s head,” he said at BBC London harboring on the remarks of Trump about himself. A spokesperson for the Mayor maintained: “We are not going to dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response.”
Speaking to the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Trump said London had “a terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed… Now they want to go to Sharia law.”
Taking to the X Donald Trump had stated: “Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me…”.
PM Sir Keir Starmer said he was not going to get drawn into a war of words “but what I will say is this, because it is important. You saw from the state visit last week that there are plenty of things on which the president (Trump) and I agree, and we are working together. There are some issues on which we disagree, and what the president said about the mayor, who’s doing a really good job, in fact driving down serious crime, what he said about the introduction of Sharia law was ridiculous nonsense. I support our mayor, I’m really proud of the fact we have a Muslim mayor of a very diverse city. We do work with the Americans on a huge number of issues. On this issue I disagree, and I stand with our mayor.”
