48,00,000 acres of land for CAF

ISLAMABAD: Under the Green Pakistan Initiative, Corporate Agriculture Farming (CAF) under the umbrella of Army could commence on 48 lakh acres of land.

Till this day 9 lakh acres has been allotted for corporate farming under the Green Pakistan Initiative: (8,11,619 acres in Punjab, 52,713 acres in Sindh*, 47,606 acres in Balochistan and 74,140 acres in KP). In Cholistan 200,000 acres of land have been contracted.

*CM House Sindh stated: A G2G Joint Venture Agreement was signed at Chief Minister House between the Sindh government and M/s Green Corporate Initiative (Private) Limited, a company under the umbrella of the Pakistan Army for corporate agriculture farming initiative for cultivating available barren land in all the provinces of the country.

Local administration in Sindh had identified 52,713 acres of barren land — 28,000 acres in Khairpur, 10,000 acres in Tharparkar, 9,305 acres in Dadu, 1,000 acres in Thatta, 3,408 acres in Sujawal and 1,000 acres in Badin — to be handed over to the company for the next 20 years to execute its ‘Green Pakistan Initiative’, which is aimed at modernising agricultural practices by bringing the concept of corporate farming in the country.

LHC had suspended its own ruling here on 17th of July, 2023 by means of which the Punjab Government was barred from leasing land (for two decades) to Army in three districts of the Province (Bhakkar, Khushab, and Sahiwal).

It may be recalled that in the month of March (2023) the Provincial Govt of Punjab and Pakistan Army had signed an agreement according to which the previous was to provide 45,267 acres of land to the later for CAF.

But LHC, hearing a petition filed on behalf of Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan, stopped the transaction saying that the caretaker government lacked constitutional and legal mandate to take such decision.

It may be recalled that Punjab caretaker govt had been stopped by Justice Abid Hussain Chattha of LHC here on 30th of March, 2023 from handing over the terrain measuring some 45,267 acres (situated in Bhakkar, Khushab and Sahiwal districts) to Army.
