Ashura processions in Sindh to be provided security: IGP

KARACHI: IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon has informed the Media on Monday (15th July, 2024) that 59,000 Sindh police personnel would be deputed to provide security to 4,135 Ashura processions across the province.

It is pertinent to mention here that there are 2,217 imambargahs in Sindh where a total of 16,990 majalis, are scheduled. Officers have been asked to make sure that peace-keeping measures are implemented throughout the Province.

Officers must be well aware of the starting and ending times of majalis and juloos, effectively utilize manpower, carry out monitoring of miscreants, keep anti-riots platoons equipped with all weapons in readiness, stock review of arms and ammunition/ anti-riots kits.

Other measures taken are establishment of control rooms for effective communication, implementation of Loudspeakers Act, availability of containers to block/seal other roads connecting to the routes if required, prevention of wall chalking and distribution of pamphlets containing hate material.

The DIGs and SSPs have been told that the concerned SHOs should be formally bound to carry out coordinated operations.
