6000 dummy publications denotified

ISLAMABAD: Information Ministry has denotified over 6000 dummy publications here today.

It is universally known that many publications, while claiming to have an enormous circulation, only print a very limited number of copies that too when they get advertisements. Often supplementary is brought out after getting sufficient number of advertorials.

Then there are those who work for the Minister of Information itself and grant government advertisements worth millions to their own dummy publications. Many others only acquire declaration and attempt to lure an investor but never print the daily or periodical.

It is pertinent to mention here that as per the law, all newspaper owners and publishers have to be registered; a newspaper has to tell the registration authority the name and address of printing press where the publication is printed. Many printing presses, claiming to print large quantities of copies, simply do not happen to have the facilities to do so.

Hence the Ministry’s Office of Press Registrar has given a deadline of 15th April  to all presses printing newspapers to fulfill all regulatory requirements enabling the regulating bodies to figure out the matter being printed and also the number of copies printed. They are also not supposed to print non-registered newspapers and understandably no material like hate speech or anti-state text or images.
