French Bazaar to help charities

KARACHI: In order to raise funds for deserving charities, French Speaking Women’s Association (Karachi Accueil) has been organizing annual bazaars at French Cultural Centre (Alliance Française) for years.

This year too over 80 exhibitors offered a variety of wares ranging from a free eye-testing camp to books, paintings, terracotta, garments, jewelry, shoes, artifacts and foodstuff.

Seven stalls were provided gratis to NGOs in recognition of their services.

President of Karachi Accueil Seemee Wajahat while talking to NewsPaksitan.TV said: “It is an annual event called French Bazaar. We started it about five years ago.

“This is organized by Karachi Accueil – French Speaking Women’s Association. we are around 25-30 members.

“There is a committee of five people who organizes it. Alliance Française help us by providing their premises and electricity etc.

”We try to have a French ambiance somewhat … so that the food is French, the music is French …

“We encourage small entrepreneurs, young people  who are doing crafts, jewelry, clothes …

“so they can get some encouragement and also have free stalls to help some schools financially whatever funds we raise from the Bazaar is given in charity”.

Zehra, a young entrepreneur, while talking to NewsPaksitan.TV said: “This place is a very good platform for home-based (entrepreneurs).

“Especially for those who want to do business but have not grown up that big. So this platform is one of the best to display your stuff.”

A visitor while appreciating the effort held: “This Bazaar has a purpose: It is to empower women … and the profit (generated from the Bazaar) goes to them.

“I think it is a fantastic thing … it should be held in different areas of the country. It should be done more frequently because we need this more. See this. See how many people are there”.
