IFJ-PFUJ Hold Workshops On Decent Work, Labor Laws

OKARA/GUJRAT: International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) held two consecutive training workshops for journalists in collaboration with regional unions of Okara and Gujrat on 14th -15th Nov, 2024 (Thursday and Friday) respectively.

Secretary General of PFUJ Rana Muhammad Azeem, IFJ Country Coordinator GM, PFUJ Vice President and Instructor Sheher Bano, PFUJ Secretary Information Ihtsham-ul-Haq and Project Focal Person Farooq Johri apprised local journalists about their legal rights as promised by the Pakistan Labour Laws.

The workshop was attended by a large number of male and female working journalists. Participants described different issues & problems faced by them in the line of duty. During the training workshop, instructors highlighted various domestic and international laws to solve the problems and urged them to raise their voice and approach the courts for available legal remedies instead of remaining silent on the denial of their rights.

Rana Muhammad Azeem stated that PFUJ and IFJ were working together to solve the problems of Pakistani journalists. A writ petition in this regard is also pending in the Islamabad High Court. It also stresses the rights of regional correspondents and freelance journalists. He assured that PFUJ would continue its struggle for the rights of journalists and it would negotiate with the government and hoped that facilities would be announced for local journalists from smaller cities of the country.

Rana Azeem pledged that the PFUJ would provide all kinds of legal assistance if any journalist faces any problem. Host, Gujarat Union of Journalists’ President, Shahid Akhtar Chaudhry, General Secretary Dr Irfan Mughal, Muhammad Ismail, Syed Asim Raza, Syed Azhar Hussain Shah thanked IFJ and PFUJ for conducting the training workshop. In concluding ceremony, Rana Muhammad Azeem, GM, Sheher Bano, Ihtsham-ul-Haq and Farooq Johri handed over certificates to the participants.
