PARIS: A court here on Monday (31st March, 2025) has convicted far-right leader Marie Le Pen, [who belongs to the National Rally (RN)], for using European Parliament Fund’s three million Euros to pay per party members.
She has been banned from participating for political office for five years. That means she will not be able to run for 2027 presidential polls. Marine Le Pen, who happens to be a member of Parliament, has been found guilty alongside eight MEPs from National Rally (NR) and a dozen assistants.
National Rally’s 29-year-old President Jordan Bardella, took to X to remark: “It is not just Marine Le Pen who has been unfairly sentenced: it’s French democracy that has been executed.” It is believed that in the absence of Le Pen, Bardella will run for the 2027 presidential elections.
