Karachi, rain claims 20 lives on 18th March

KARACHI: Strong winds and heavy rains lashed the Port City on Wed (18th March, 2026) evening, claiming twenty lives and injuring a dozen others in Baldia, and other parts of the Metropolis.

Most of the deaths were caused due to collapsing of roofs and other structures when winds of up to 90 kph lashed the city. Many trees were uprooted. Accumulated rain water also caused traffic jams at major arteries.

While different areas of Karachi experienced 15 to 35 mm of rain, Korangi recorded the highest rainfall at 55.6 mm. As usual several parts of of the city plunged into darkness. In order to assuage citoyens’ anger KE took to the X:

“Our field teams remain on-ground, working round the clock to restore power in affected areas. Despite water-logging challenges, safety remains our top priority. We value your patience and understanding as we continue these efforts.”

According to the prediction of Met Office, Karachi will be lashed again by thunderstorms, winds and rain on Eid-ul-Fitr day (21st March, 2026).
