Iran war, day 78: Stalemate over Nuc. Plan

Asia Middle East Politics USA

TEHRAN: On the 78th day of Iran-US war, stalemate over Tehran’s nuclear program persists.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while speaking during a BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and UAE) huddle, claimed that his govt had received a message from Trump apropos openness to fresh parleys.

It is pertinent to mention here that US president had insinuated that he could be open to Iran placing its civilian nuclear plan on hold for twenty years.

Hormuz Resolution:

Although Hormuz Resolution, that has been drafted by US (backed by Bahrain, KSA, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar) ‘to defend freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz’, Russia and China will veto it.

The permanent mission of Tehran to UN warned: “It is now crystal clear that the US is seeking to exploit the number of the so-called co-sponsors of its politically motivated and one-sided draft resolution to manufacture a false image of ‘broad international support’ for its ongoing unlawful actions and to pave the way for further military adventurism in the region.”

Envoy from Tehran to UN stated, by means of X: “Should the US trigger any new escalation, all co-sponsoring States will share international responsibility alongside Washington for the consequences,…No political excuse or diplomatic cover can absolve them of responsibility for facilitating, enabling, and legitimizing US aggression.”

Ambassador of China, while criticizing the UNSC Hormuz Resolution, said it was not right in timing as well as content.

On the 70th day of the War (8th May, 2026) US and Iran traded fire despite truce. Irani Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, accused USA of reckless military adventure, due to which peace parleys failed repeatedly.

Taking to the X, Abbas Araghchi stated: “Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the US opts for a reckless military adventure. Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire? Whatever the causes, outcome is the same: Iranians never bow to pressure.”
