KARACHI: Posters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s chief have been removed from the roads of Karachi and Hyderabad.
According to details, posters displaying images of MQM supremo Altaf Hussain were removed late night on Wednesday across Karachi and Hyderabad, including Mukka Chowk and Jinnah Ground.
The move came after the law enforcement agencies started a crackdown against MQM and continued to seal offices of the party in different areas of the metropolis.
MQM offices including party headquarters Nine Zero were sealed shortly after an inflammatory speech by party chief via telephone on Monday in which he instigated workers to attack a private television channel.
Heavy contingents of police and Rangers, according to sources, first searched unit and sector offices and then locked them.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif took notice and telephoned Sindh Rangers Director General Bilal Akbar and ordered him to take immediate action against the violent workers.
In the aftermath of the incident, senior leaders of the party, Dr Farooq Sattar and Amir Liaquat were detained for a night.
They were released the next day when both of the leaders held a press conference among others present including Khawaja Izharul Hassan, leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly and announced detachment from Altaf Hussain.
