Afghanistan recalls Envoy from Pakistan

KABUL: Terming PM Imran Khan’s suggestion that Kabul should set up an interim govt. as irresponsible, Afghanistan has recalled its Envoy.

PM while talking to media on Monday insinuated that Afghan Govt. was a hurdle in the peace process and said that he had canceled a scheduled meeting with Taliban leaders.

Meanwhile, Kabul Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Deputy Ambassador of Pakistan to discuss the remarks.

Clarification by the Pakistan Foreign Office: Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Dr. Muhammad Faisal has clarified that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recent comments on Afghanistan had been reported out of context in the Media which led to an unwarranted reaction from various quarters. It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister had referred to Pakistan’s model, where elections are held under an interim government. FO stated that the comments should not be misinterpreted to imply interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. It was further stated that Pakistan had no other interest in Afghanistan, but to promote peace through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led political process. Dr. Muhammad Faisal pointed out that Imran Khan had taken a personal interest in facilitating the ongoing political reconciliation process and the same must not be misconstrued to undermine the sincere efforts of Pakistan or to create misunderstandings at this crucial stage of the process. According to FO Prime Minister understands the plight of brave people of Afghanistan, who have a right to live in peace after four decades of violence and war.
