No power can restore autonomy in Kashmir: Modi

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi, speaking at a state election rally, responded to the demand of the newly elected lawmakers to restore the partial autonomy of IoK, maintained that no power in the world could restore (partial) autonomy in Kashmir.

Supporting the BJP government’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370, PM Modi said that only the Constitution of Baba Saheb Ambedkar (one of the founding fathers) would operate in the Valley.

According to the Pakistan’s Foreign Office Jammu and Kashmir conflict “is an internationally recognised dispute that must be resolved in accordance with the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people”.

According to FO: “The resolution of this unresolved conflict is pivotal to peace and stability in S. Asia... India’s unilateral actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) cannot and will not change this reality…

“While Pakistan remains committed to diplomacy and dialogue, it will respond with unyielding resolve to any hostile actions…True peace and stability in S. Asia can only be achieved through a settlement in accordance with UNSC resolutions and inalienable rights of the Kashmiri people...

“Pakistan, therefore, calls on India to abandon its provocative rhetoric and baseless assertions about IIOJK, and to instead, engage in a meaningful dialogue for a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and for durable peace in S. Asia.”
