ATC sentences Data Darbar suicide bombing facilitator to death

LAHORE: An ATC here on Thursday (28th of November, 2019) sentenced Data Darbar suicide bombing facilitator Mohsin Khan  to death on 22 counts and to life imprisonment.  

The convict, a resident of Shabqadar tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district, has been asked to pay compensation of  Rs.0.4 million per murder  and Rs. 50,000 to each of the 30 injured.

Twelve people (including five Elite Force personnel) died in the 8th May, 2019 bombing. 

It is pertinent to mention here that CTD had got the case registered and today the court had ruled that the prosecution had proven the case beyond  doubt. Explosive material was found in the convict’s possession when he was captured.

Prosecutor Abdul Rauf Wattoo, maintained that on 6th of May Mohsin and the suicide bomber (belonging to a banned outfit) had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan through Torkham. 

On 8th day of May the bomber had blown himself up near gate 2 of the Data Darbar shrine, near a vehicle of the Elite Force killing 11 and injuring 30. Before execution a confirmation will have to be acquired from Lahore High Court.

Data Darbar blast facilitator sent on 20-day remand

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court here handed over an alleged facilitator of the Data Darbar blast to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police on 20-day physical remand for questioning.

The CTD police produced Mohsin Khan in the court under tight security and demanded that he be remanded in their custody for at least 60 days for investigation into the May 08 suicide blast that killed over 10 people and injured around two dozen others. app

Data Darbar blast: Another alleged facilitator detained

LAHORE: Police here has claimed that another facilitator of Data Darbar suicide blast has been detained on Saturday.

However, the suspected accomplice, who is a resident of Gujranwala and runs a grocery store, has claimed that he went to Data Darbar just to visit the shrine.

In a statement, he further claimed that he ran out of the shrine when he heard of the blast.

A five-member joint investigation team (JIT) comprising members from CTD, Intelligence Bureau, Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence, has been constituted by the Punjab home department to probe the incident.

According to a notification, the JIT was formed on the request of the additional inspector general of police, CTD.app

Security beefed up in Lahore after Data Darbar blast: CCPO

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer, B. A. Nasir has directed to further beef up the security in the provincial metropolis after the suicide attack outside Data Darbar.

According to official sources, he issued directions to all the divisional SPs to review security arrangements in their respective divisions and set up various pickets points for thorough checking.

He directed the officers to increase the force on all entry and exiting points of the city.

He also directed to maintain a close liaison with intelligence agencies to collect information besides strict checking of hotels, guest houses as well as surveillance and searching of suspicious persons.

CCPO further directed all the divisional SPs to implement these directions in letter and spirit.app

Taliban claim responsibility of Data Darbar blast

LAHORE: Terrorist group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility of the attack on Data Darbar shrine in Lahore.

At least 11 people were killed when a suicide bomber had directly targeted Elite Force vehicle outside Gate No. 2 of the shrine.

The police department has released an initial investigation report of the Lahore terror attack where at least eleven people including five elite force personnel were martyred and 25 others sustained wounds.

“The martyred persons include four police officials, one security guard and five citizens. Three policemen, two women and 15 locals were currently receiving medical treatment,” said Lahore Police.

The spokesperson detailed that the crime scene was secured and the concerned police unit is continuing the further investigation.

LAHORE: An explosion here today targeting police personnel deployed at Data Darbar took a toll of three lives.

Lahore blast: Four suspects arrested

LAHORE: Lahore police claimed to have arrested four people in a raid here today on suspicion of their involvement in the terror attack outside Data Darbar.

Investigators after identifying some people with the help of CCTV footage of the incident, carried out a raid at a tea stall in Garhi Shahu and took into custody four suspicious persons. They were shifted to an unknown place for questioning.

Besides, the police also arrested a rickshaw driver in connection with investigation into the incident.

It is noteworthy that the death toll from Wednesday’s suicide blast outside the Data Darbar in Lahore jumped to 12 after another injured succumbed to his wounds early Friday morning.app

Terrorists to be exterminated soon: Governor Punjab

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Wednesday that terrorists were agents of Pakistan’s enemy and the government would exterminate their remnants and sympathisers.

Talking to the media after visiting the injured of Data Darbar suicide attack here at Mayo Hospital, he said the nation and political leadership were united in the face of terrorist attack, adding that terrorists play in the hands of enemies of the country who attack the innocent at mosques, hospitals and schools.

The Governor expressed solidarity with the families of victims in this hour of grief, adding that his thoughts were with the martyrs of the dastardly act of terrorism.

Responding to a question, the Governor said it was premature to claim whether the suicide attacker targeted the policemen or the Data Darbar which houses the shrine of Hazrat Ali Hajveri.
