Bomb blast in Bahawalnagar Ashura procession claims 3 lives, accused nabbed

BAHAWALNAGAR: A hand grenade hurled by unknown miscreants at the Ashura procession here on Thursday (19th of August, 2021) has claimed 3 lives and caused injuries to fifty people.  

Police sources, confirming the deaths and injuries, stated that the experts were in the process of searching the crime scene. Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs & Cooperatives has taken to the Twitter to inform that CTD had been directed to submit report of Bahawalnagar attack after completing combing operation and inquiry. FIR of the incident was registered at CTD Multan Police Station.

According to Govt of Punjab, provincial CM  visited Safe City Authority headquarters and control room. He reviewed the security arrangements for Ashura processions and gatherings. IG briefed him on the tragic incident in Bahawalnagar. CTD was directed by the CM to submit a report after completing the search operation and investigation.

CM Punjab had announced a compensation of Rs. 1M each for the heirs of deceased and half a million rupees each to the seriously injured. Those who were not seriously injured would receive Rs. 100,000 each. CM said that the incident of the attack on the Ashura procession was being thoroughly investigated. Later, a Presser was held here by Punjab Minister for Zakat and Ushr Shaukat Lalika regarding Thursday 19th August hand-grenade attack on Ashura procession.

Talking to the journalists the minister insinuated that foreign elements could be involved in the bombing. He said that LEA personnel were profoundly investigating the incident and told that the accused had been nabbed. On duty DSP, SHO, in-charge Security Branch and other officers were suspended.
