KARACHI: Iconic Globe that has remained perched on a fountain in front of Islamia College for decades, will have to give way to the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
Property of KMC, the 60-ton Globe was created in 1964 by the then administration of the Metropolis for the people of the Port City. It had remained, for long, a favourite site for shooting film scenes. One can see the Globe in old movies featuring the mega-stars like Waheed Murad and Nadeem.
Although it has been said that the Globe will be dismantled and rebuilt at a new location, savants at the helm of affairs are of the view that the cement structure could not be safely moved from its present spot. Indus Valley guys, who moved a building from Kharadar, can help KMC move this monument safely.
