OTTAWA: PM Justin Trudeau on Tue (7th Jan) has dismissed Donald Trump’s insinuation apropos using economic force by US to make Canada its 51st state.
Taking to the X Trudeau stated: “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States…workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.”
FM Melanie Joly while commenting on Trump’s statement noted: “…that showed complete lack of understanding of what makes Canada a strong country”. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre held: “Canada will never be the 51st state. We are a great and independent country.”
It is pertinent to mention here that President-Elect Donald Trump, terming US-Canada border an ‘artificially drawn line’, had threatened to impose a 25 per cent tariff on imports from Canada which exports seventy-five percent of all commodities to America.
