Don’t use unapproved drugs to cure COVID-19 patients

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Zafar Mirza, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Services, has warned since WHO has yet not recommended any drug to cure or prevent Coronavirus infection, doctors should avoid use of unapproved medicines.

Noting that certain dubious characters were suggesting use of some potions to cure and prevent COVID-19, the Advisor asked such people (including physicians) to avoid such practice. He pointed out that there was no evidence that current medicine could prevent or cure the disease.

He further asked people to follow Ministry of National Health Services’ advisory regarding identification of the people who should get their PCR test conducted as there was heavy burden on 14 diagnostic laboratories currently conducing tests.

Government of Pakistan has noted that 27% of the people who tested positive for Coronavirus, were infected locally. According to Dr. Zafar Mirza, out of 1593 confirmed cases, 420 patients got infected locally. He told that 857 people who tested positive had traveled to Iran while 191 others who tested positive for Coronavirus had also returned from abroad.

Dr. Mirza claimed that the spread of cases had been contained but things can get worse if the instructions about social distancing were ignored.
