FIA wants Interpol to issue red warrant against MQM founder

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sent a letter to the International Police Organisation (Interpol) requesting the Lyon-based authority to issue a red warrant for Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Founder Altaf Hussain.

According to a statement issued by the interior ministry, all legal formalities required have been fulfilled to seek a warrant against Hussain, who was “wanted by many Pakistani courts in criminal cases”.

This will be the second time Pakistan has been making a formal request to Interpol for a red warrant for the MQM supremo within a span of a few months.

A similar request was made in February with the FIA submitting a few documents to Interpol to establish that the issuance of red warrant was obligatory.

This time around, the government has attached more relevant documents with its red warrant request to make it seem like a reasonable appeal to Interpol officials, said sources.
