KARACHI: Google is paying tribute to poetess Parveen Shakir by means of doodle today (Sunday 24th of November, 2019) on her 67th birthday. “Today’s Doodle celebrates the pioneering Pakistani poet Parveen Shakir on her 67th birthday. The release of her first collection of poems titled Khushbu (Fragrance) won her the Adamjee Literary Award in 1976, and her distinguished contributions to Urdu poetry awarded her one of the highest civil prizes in Pakistan, the President’s Award for Pride of Performance in 1990,” Google held.
Parveen Shakir did her Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard, Masters in English Literature, Linguistics, Bank Management, and PhD in Bank Administration. She commenced her career as a teacher of English but After clearing CSS exams she joined the Civil Service. At the time of her death Parveen Shakir was working in the capacity of FBR’s second secretary.

ISLAMABAD: The 24th death anniversary of renowned poetess Parveen Shakir would be observed on 26th day of December 2019 who was one of the female poetesses regarded as pioneers in defying tradition by expressing the “female experience” in Urdu poetry.
Born on 24 November 1952 in Karachi, Parveen Shakir was a self-made woman and adopted purely eastern style in her poems. She not only expressed her feelings but also of working women.
Her famous poetry books include “Khushbu”, Mah-e-Tamam “Sad-Barg, Khud’ kalaami” and Inkar.
Spontaneity in expression was the hallmark of her poetry that mesmerized the youth especially girls.
Parveen played greater role in depiction of romanticism in her poetic work. She portrayed the issues related to the women. Parveen Shakir started writing at an early age and published her first volume of poetry, Khushbu (Fragrance).
She was one of those female poets who could be regarded as pioneers in defying tradition by expressing the “female experience” in Urdu poetry, her work was often based on romanticism, exploring the concepts of love, beauty and their contradictions, and heavily integrated the use of metaphors, similes and personifications.app
