KARACHI: Jama’at-e-Islami (JI) took to the X (Twitter) to inform on Thursday (4th April, 2024) that Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has become Ameer of the the political entity for five years by getting support of 80% members who took part in the secret balloting which attracted 82 percent (45,000) of all voters.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, in the capacity of JI Karachi Chief, earned popularity by presenting a different face of his party: living a modest life, riding a motorcycle and being available to karachittes. It may further be recalled that, protesting against alleged rigging in the 8th Feb, 2024 General Elections, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had forfeited Karachi Central VIII seat on 12th Feb, 2024.
So far 5 Ameers had led the JI:
1) Maulana Abul A’la Maududi (1941-72);
2) Mian Tufail Muhammad (1972-87);
3) Qazi Hussain Ahmed (1987-2008);
4) Syed Munawar Hasan (2008-2013);
5) Siraj-ul-Haq (2013-2024).
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman is the 6th Ameer who will lead JI from April 2024 till April 2029.
