ICC drops ball-tampering charges against Virat Kohli

KOLKATA: International Cricket Council (ICC) has cleared Indian skipper Virat Kohli in a ball-tampering investigation, an official said on Tuesday.

Earlier a television footage showed Kohli’s tactics during first Test against England in Rajkot this week rubbing his right hand inside his mouth, where there appears to be a sweet mint, before going back to shining one side of the ball.

The video was published by a South African newspaper group IOL which publishes 15 national and regional newspapers including The Star, Saturday Star and Sunday Independent.

The ICC official said the video of Indian batsman was nine days old and thus no action can be taken against him.

“For a level 1 or level 2 offence that is alleged to have been committed at any time or place, the report must be lodged with the match referee within five days of the commission of the alleged offence,” said the ICC official.
